I will be serving at Taiwan Theological College and Seminary (English), the main Presbyterian theological institution in northern Taiwan. (There are two other seminaries on the island and a number of colleges and universities.)
My work is eclectic. The main goal is teaching, but during my first year in Taiwan I also: visited presbyteries, led a student Bible study, served as an advisor for first year seminaries, preached at local churches, and taught in the lay academy. In 2006 I had also helped start an English worship service at Suanglien church; this ministry is continued by a classmate and friend.
My (Jonathan’s) most important role will be as a teacher and scholar in the service of the Taiwanese Church, helping to train its ministers. We also serve as co-workers from the Presbyterian Church USA, nurturing friendships that go back decades. I believe that we will be bridge-makers, reminding both American and Taiwanese churches of their participation in the only, holy, catholic, and apostolic church.
