Jonathan’s Ministry Background

I (Jonathan) am a Presbyterian minister serving our church in Taiwan  I have had a range of ministry
experiences, including youth or children’s ministry at Colts Neck Reformed Church,
Glenside United
Church of Christ, Newtown Presbyterian Church, and Grace Taiwanese American Presbyterian
Church (where I was ordained).  I did my seminary field education at the Tamale Institute of Cross-
Cultural Studies in northern Ghana, a center run by the Divine Word Society.  I did CPE at Somerset
Medical Center and from 2007-2009 was a parish associate at
Westminster Presbyterian Church in
Trenton.  I am a minister member of New Brunswick Presbytery.

Ministry in Taiwan

I will be serving at Taiwan Theological College and Seminary (English), the main Presbyterian
theological institution in northern Taiwan.  (There are two other seminaries on the island and a
number of colleges and universities.)

My work is eclectic.  The main goal is teaching, but during my first year in Taiwan I also: visited
presbyteries, led a student Bible study, served as an advisor for first year seminaries, preached at
local churches, and taught in the lay academy.  In 2006 I had also helped start
an English worship
service at Suanglien church; this ministry is continued by a classmate and friend.

My (Jonathan’s) most important role will be as a teacher and scholar in the service of the Taiwanese
Church, helping to train its ministers.  We also serve as co-workers from the Presbyterian Church
USA, nurturing friendships that go back decades.  I believe that we will be bridge-makers, reminding
both American and Taiwanese churches of their participation in the only, holy, catholic, and apostolic
church.
